A message appears in the Information Bar when you open a Web page that must download an ActiveX control after you install Windows XP SP2

SYMPTOMS

After you install Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2), when you open a Web page that must download an ActiveX control in Microsoft Internet Explorer, you receive the following message in the Information Bar:
The site might require the following ActiveX control: <Your control information>.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, right-click the Information Bar, and then click Install ActiveX Control. You then receive a prompt to download the ActiveX control.

STATUS

This behavior is by design.

You cannot bypass the Information Bar unless your ActiveX control is pre-installed on the computer. You receive a modal dialog box the first time this behavior occurs. This modal dialog box explicitly calls your attention to the new feature.

Web software developers can include detailed instructions on the Web page that must download the ActiveX control. Web software developers can also include screen shots that show users how to download the control.
