Xpweb70.dll IA-64 STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a
bug in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to"
section. MORE INFORMATIONThe dynamic
memory management architecture in SQL Server lets the data pages and the procedure cache share
the same buffer pool. Typically, this design works fine because the Lazywriter
process naturally ages out buffers in the buffer pool that are not being reused
frequently. However, with a high rate of incoming ad-hoc queries, it is possible
for the procedure cache to grow very large relative to the data cache. The large procedure cache causes the
performance problems on a computer that is running Microsoft SQL Server 2000 64-bit that were mentioned earlier. The hotfix discussed in this article improves the efficiency of SQL Server's internal memory allocation process when the procedure cache grows very large.
