How to register Works by using a Product ID

This article describes how to register Microsoft Works by using a Product ID (PID). Additionally, this article discusses the Product ID numbers that cannot be used, such as OEM or earlier versions of Works.

Note Online registration in Works will only accept the e-mail address that you used to create a Microsoft Passport Network account.

For more information about how to use your e-mail address to create a Passport Network account, visit the following Microsoft Web site: The Product ID appears either at the end of the installation or when you start Works for the first time. If you did not write this number down, you can use the Help menu to locate this number.

To locate your Product ID, follow these steps:

1. Start a Works module, such as the Microsoft Works Spreadsheet or the Microsoft Works Word Processor.
2. On the Help menu, click About Microsoft Works.
3. In the About Microsoft Works window, locate the Product ID, and then write it down.
   
   For example, the Product ID will appear as 76060-851-0314904-0000.
4. Click OK, and then quit Works 8.0.
5. If you skip the registration process on the first start of Works 8.0 or during installation, visit the following Microsoft Web site to access the registration Web site:
   http://www.microsoft.com/products/works/support.mspx (http://www.microsoft.com/products/works/support.mspx)
   Note Product ID numbers that contain "OEM" cannot be registered. Copies of Works that are shipped on Original Equipment Manufacturer PCs are not required to be registered. Also, no registration is required for versions of Works that are earlier than Microsoft Works 7.0 or Microsoft Works Suite 2003.

To register Works online, follow these steps:

1. Start a Works module, such as the Microsoft Works Spreadsheet or the Microsoft Works Word Processor.
2. On the Help menu, click About Microsoft Works.
3. Click Online Registration. The Microsoft Works Suite 2005 Product Registration page appears.
4. On the Microsoft Works Suite 2005 Product Registration page, type your Passport Network e-mail address and password, and then click Sign In.
5. Under Product Registration, type your information in the appropriate fields, and then click Finish.
6. Click Yes.

By registering Works, you can receive product updates and technical support. Online registration is also aimed at reducing software piracy.
