Description of the SharePoint Portal Server 2003 post-Service Pack 1 hotfix package: September 30, 2004

This article describes the SharePoint Portal Server 2003 issues that are fixed in the SharePoint Portal Server 2003 hotfix package that is dated September 30, 2004.

Issues that the hotfix package fixes

The following issue is fixed in this hotfix package.

• 875515  (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/875515/ ) External content is not returned in the search results in SharePoint Portal Server 2003

The following issues are also fixed in this hotfix package. They were not previously documented in a Microsoft Knowledge Base article.

• Some search schedules are not displayed on the Manage Search Schedules page in SharePoint Portal Server 2003
  
  Some of the search schedules that you created are not displayed on the Manage Search Schedules page. This issue occurs if more than 50 search schedules exist. The Manage Search Schedules page in SharePoint Portal Server 2003 displays a maximum of 50 search schedules. If more than 50 search schedules are created, only the first 50 search schedules appear on the Manage Search Schedules page.
• You cannot create a portal site if UDP port 1434 is blocked
  
  You configure a firewall between the computer that is running SharePoint Portal Server 2003 and the computer that is running Microsoft SQL Server 2000 on your network. The firewall blocks UDP port 1434. You use Client Network Utility to configure an alias to communicate with the computer that is running SQL Server 2000, and then you configure SharePoint Portal Server 2003 to use the alias.
  
  When you try to create a portal site, the portal site is not created successfully. The SPS_SiteCreation_PortalSiteName.log file contains error messages that are similar to the following:
  Portal creation job exception. (status=PortalAdminJobStatusFailed)
  System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

Service pack information

This problem was first corrected in Microsoft Office SharePoint Portal Server 2003 Service Pack 2.
