Article ID: 885427 - Last Review: December 3, 2007 - Revision: 2.4 FIX: You may receive a "Viewstate is invalid" error message when you use virtual directories that are configured as applications in the .NET Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1SYMPTOMSIn the Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1 (SP1), when you use virtual directories that are not configured as applications, you may receive view state error messages that are similar to the following: The viewstate is invalid for this page and might be corrupted. CAUSEThis problem occurs because the template source directories on two computers do not match. For view state validation to work correctly, the source path for both computers must match.
A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that this article describes. Apply it only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. To resolve this problem, contact Microsoft Product Support Services to obtain the hotfix.
