Article ID: 885674 - Last Review: April 6, 2005 - Revision: 1.6 Readiness Review And Faster Smarter Electronic Assessment Programs Fail After Installing Windows Hotfix KB840315On This PageSYMPTOMSWhen launching the Readiness Review or Faster Smarter Electronic Assessment Engine program, you will encounter a script error. After dismissing the script error, the assessment questions will not be visible, and you will not be able to take the exam.
CAUSEThis error occurs after you have installed Windows Hotfix KB840315 security update, or Windows XP Service Pack 2. After you apply Windows Hotfix KB840315 or Windows XP Service Pack 2, only files that have the .chm file name extension can be used as compiled HTML Help files. Programs that use other file name extensions for compiled HTML Help files, which the Readiness Review and the Faster Smarter Electronic Assessment Engine programs use, will no longer display content. RESOLUTIONA fix has been developed to resolve this issue. Please download the following self-extracting file and follow the install instructions below to apply the fix: The following file is available for download from the Microsoft Download Center: patchqs.exe
(http://download.microsoft.com/download/a/d/a/ada3b6cc-3e5d-45a7-8523-1235f3edb1b8/patchqs.exe)
How to Install the PatchAfter downloading the file onto your computer,1. Double-click on the downloaded file (patchqs.exe). A message box appears, explaining where to unzip the files to. 2. Click Ok. A message box appears, prompting you to specify which folder to unzip the files to. 3. or, C:\Program Files\Faster Smarter Electronic Assessment Engine\Network+Cert 4. Click OK. 5. Click Unzip. A message box appears, announcing "6 file(s) unzipped successfully". Click Ok, then click Close. 6. Open Windows Explorer or My Computer and navigate to the folder where you just unzipped the files to in step 3. You will see the following six files in the folder: patchqs.bat UNpatchqs.bat glossary.html.new help.htm.new questionlistgen.js.new readme.txt 7. Double-click on patchqs.bat. A black command-line window box quickly flashes across the screen (may not be noticeable) while the patch is being executed. After which, you will see two files left in the folder: UNpatchqs.bat readme.txt This indicates the patch has been successfully applied. Note If you have multiple Readiness Review or/and Electronic Assessment Engine programs installed, you will need to repeat the above steps for each installed program.
