CAUSEThis problem may occur if the language auto-detection of five or more KANJI characters is incorrectly recognized as Chinese language characters. Description of the PowerPoint 2003 post-Service Pack 1 hotfix package: September 22, 2004 After you install this hotfix, follow the steps that are listed in the "More Information" section of this article to set the DisablePasteLanguageAutodetect registry key and to activate the hotfix. STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section. This problem was first corrected in Office 2003 Service Pack 2. MORE INFORMATIONWarning If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own risk. Important note When you activate this hotfix, PowerPoint 2003 loses the ability to automatically detect the language for text that is pasted into the program. The text will be pasted in the same language as the default language setting of your Microsoft Windows operating system. For example, English text is pasted as Japanese text if you are using a Japanese version of Windows. If you have completed working with the .mhtl files, or if you want text to be copied and pasted in the correct language, change the DisablePasteLanguageAutodetect registry key value to 0.
