Description of the Office SharePoint Portal Server 2003 post-Service Pack 1 hotfix package: September 29, 2004

This article describes the Microsoft Office SharePoint Portal Server 2003 issue that is fixed in the SharePoint Portal Server 2003 post-Service Pack 1 hotfix package that is dated September 29, 2004.

Issue that the hotfix package fixes

This hotfix package fixes the following issue that was not previously documented in a Microsoft Knowledge Base article:

• When a user who is not an administrator tries to create a site in the sitedirectory area of a Windows SharePoint Services Web site, the URL for the site that is being created points to the subarea instead of to the root/sitedirectory area.

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next software update that contains this hotfix.
