Article ID: 886207 - Last Review: December 3, 2007 - Revision: 2.2 You receive an "An error occurred while accessing domain information" error message when you install Windows Small Business Server 2003 Server tools and configure Component MessagesSYMPTOMSIf you upgrade a Microsoft Windows 2000 Server-based domain controller to Microsoft Windows Small Business Server 2003, the SBS 2003 Setup program fails during installation of the Server Tools component. When this occurs, the following message appears in the Component Messages window: Server Configuration An error occurred while accessing domain information. Open Active Directory Users and Computers, and verify that objects appear. Rerun Setup. Server Tools An error occurred while copying files for the Server Tools component. See C:\Program Files\Microsoft Integration\Windows Small Business Server 2003\Logs\SBSMSI-remote.LOG for the list of files that were not copied. You may want to run Setup again and reinstall the component. [MM/DD/YY,14:39:45] Server Configuration: [2] An error occurred while accessing
domain information. Open Active Directory Users and Computers, and verify that

80072030 indicates that the object was not found when the Windows Small Business Server Setup program searched for specific
display specifiers. RESOLUTIONTo resolve this issue, you can perform a system state backup, and then import the display specifiers into Active Directory by using the csvde command-line tool. To do this, follow these steps: Note You should only follow these steps if you receive the exact error message in the Errorlog.txt file that is described in the Symptoms section.
