SYMPTOMS

After a delegate deletes a meeting request in Microsoft Office Outlook 2003, the recurring appointment that is associated with that meeting request may be removed from the recipient's calendar. This problem occurs even though the recipient accepted the meeting request before the delegate deleted the meeting request.

CAUSE

This problem may occur when the following conditions are true:
  • A delegate opens a recurring meeting request in Microsoft Office Outlook 2003 after the original recipient accepts the meeting request. Then, the delegate deletes it without accepting, declining, or marking the meeting request as tentative.
  • The recipient who is sent the meeting request by the delegate accepts the request by using a program or service that uses Collaboration Data Objects (CDO).
CDO may not correctly record that the meeting is recurring. When a delegate opens the meeting request after they sent it in Microsoft Office Outlook 2003, Outlook may overwrite the changes that CDO makes. This causes the meeting and its associated appointment to change the status of the meeting request to "not accepted." When a request is deleted without being accepted or if the appointment state is not accepted, the associated appointment item is also deleted

Restart requirement

When you install this hotfix, the following services are stopped and then restarted automatically:
  • Microsoft Exchange MTA Stacks
  • Microsoft Exchange Information Store
  • Microsoft Exchange System Attendant

Hotfix replacement information

The English version of this hotfix has the file attributes (or later file attributes) that are listed in the following table. The dates and times for these files are listed in coordinated universal time (UTC). When you view the file information, it is converted to local time. To find the difference between UTC and local time, use the Time Zone tab in the Date and Time tool in Control Panel.
