SYMPTOMS

If the following conditions are true, the Microsoft Windows XP-based computer may stop responding:

You are using a Windows XP-based portable computer.
The power cord is plugged in or is unplugged when the computer is in the process of entering standby.

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix might receive additional testing.
