SYMPTOMS

When a user sends an e-mail message, the e-mail message that is received by the recipient contains incorrect e-mail address information in the From box. The sender's e-mail address appears as two distinct addresses. This problem occurs if the following conditions are true:
  • The organization that the user belongs to is running Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 or Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server.
  • The sender's display name contains a comma and extended characters.
When the recipient of the message replies, that recipient receives a non-delivery report (NDR) because the From box contains incorrect e-mail address information.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, apply the service pack or the hotfix that is appropriate for the version of Exchange Server that you are running and add the registry key at the end of the article.
