The country of Uruguay has scheduled a modified daylight-saving time program for 2004 and 2005. This modified daylight-saving time program is different from the daylight-saving time program that applies to the default time zone that is used for Uruguay in Microsoft Windows operating systems. The default time zone for Uruguay is Brasilia -3:00. The daylight-saving time program for the Brasilia -3:00 time zone is:
•
Daylight-saving time starts at 2:00 A.M. on the third Sunday of October 2004. The third Sunday of October 2004 is October 17, 2004.
•
Daylight-saving time ends at 2:00 A.M. on the second Sunday of February 2005. The second Sunday of February 2005 is February 8, 2005.
The new daylight-saving time program in Uruguay is:
•
daylight-saving time starts at 2:00 A.M. on the third Sunday of September 2004.
The third Sunday of September 2004 is September 19, 2004.
•
daylight-saving time ends at 2:00 A.M. on the second Sunday of March
2005. The second Sunday of March 2005 is March 13, 2005.
Because this is a new daylight-saving time program in Uruguay, computers that are running a Microsoft Windows operating system do not adjust the time zone to reflect the change to daylight-saving time. This step-by-step article describes how to change the default behavior of the Uruguay time zone.
Note Because there are several versions of Microsoft Windows, the following steps may be different on your computer. If they are, see your product documentation to complete these steps.
Method 1: Use the Tzedit.exe utility to manually modify the time zone
Use the Tzedit.exe utility to adjust the start and the end dates for daylight-saving time in the Uruguay time zone. The Tzedit.exe utility is available on any
Microsoft Windows Resource Kit. To use this method, you must obtain the Tzedit.exe utility from the resource kit for your version of Windows. For more information about the Windows resource kits, visit the Microsoft Windows Deployment and Resource Kits Web site:

Method 2: Run Timezones.reg and Tzinfo.reg files to change the daylight-saving time on another computer
Important This section, method, or task contains steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly.
