This article describes the Office 2003 issue that is fixed in the Office 2003 post-Service Pack 1 hotfix package that is dated November 18, 2004.

Issues that the hotfix package fixes

This hotfix package fixes the following issue that was not previously documented in a Microsoft Knowledge Base article:

After you install Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2) on a computer that has Office 2003 installed, the System Information utility may display an incorrect language for some Office 2003 programs.

For example, the System Information utility may display an incorrect language for an Office 2003 program when you follow these steps:
1. Click Start, click Run, type msinfo32 in the Open box, and then click OK.
2. In the System Information utility, expand Office 2003 Applications, and then expand an Office 2003 program. For example, expand Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2003.
3. Click Summary, and then note the language that is listed in the Language field.
This issue occurs even though you are using English versions of Windows XP and Office 2003.

This problem was first corrected in Office 2003 Service Pack 2.

The optimized version of this hotfix is a post-Office 2003 Service Pack 1 (SP1) hotfix. To install the hotfix, you must have Office 2003 SP1 installed. For additional information about Office 2003 SP1, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

The full-file version of this hotfix is also the administrative version of this hotfix. You can install this version of the hotfix on a computer that is running Office 2003 with Office 2003 SP1 installed or on a computer that is running Office 2003 without Office 2003 SP1 installed.

However, we have tested this hotfix more extensively on a computer that is running Office 2003 with Office 2003 SP1 installed than we have on a computer that is running Office 2003 without Office 2003 SP1 installed. If you install this hotfix on a computer that is running Office 2003 without Office 2003 SP1 installed, some file conflicts might occur. We support this configuration, but we do not recommend this configuration.

Restart information

You must restart your computer after you apply this hotfix.

Hotfix replacement information

This hotfix is not replaced by any later hotfix.

Registry information

You do not have to create or modify any registry keys to use any hotfixes that this package contains.
