On This PageSYMPTOMSWhen you enter your domain credentials in the applicable logon dialog box, your domain user name may not be accepted. This symptom may occur when you try to start certain programs, such as Microsoft Outlook. It may also occur when you use the Connect As component to access a shared folder or another a shared resource.
For example, when you use the Connect As component to access a shared folder, you receive a notification message in the Connect As dialog box that is similar to the following: CAUSEThis problem occurs when the user principal name (UPN) suffix contains only numbers. For example, a UPN such as UserName@1234 generates this problem. The credential manager component in Microsoft Windows Server 2003 and in Microsoft Windows XP does not support a numeric-only UPN suffix. RESOLUTIONWindows Server 2003 hotfix informationA supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next software update that contains this hotfix.If the hotfix is available for download, there is a "Hotfix download available" section at the top of this Knowledge Base article. If this section does not appear, contact Microsoft Customer Service and Support to obtain the hotfix. For example, use "1234.com" as a suffix.
