Unable to add customized fields after deleting a default Name field that contains an apostrophe on the Contact page in Microsoft CRM 1.2

SYMPTOMS

On a new installation of Microsoft Business Solutions CRM 1.2, on the Contact page, the Detailstab contains three fields with an apostrophe in the name and label:Assistant's Name, Spouse's Name, and Manager's Phone. Deleting any one of these fields through the Settings page, theSystem Customization page, the Contacts page, and then theCustomize Form dialog box, prevents a Microsoft CRM administrator from adding a custom field thereafter.

RESOLUTION

Microsoft CRM has a fix for this problem that is part of a cumulative update. The cumulative update information is described in the following Microsoft Knowledge Base article:
