You cannot configure Exchange 2003 so that the simple display name appears in outgoing messages

By default, the Preserve sender's display name on message option is enabled in Microsoft Exchange Server 2003. The display name is the name that appears in Address Book. When a user sends a message, the display name of the user appears in the message. You cannot configure Exchange 2003 so that the simple display name of the user appears instead of the display name in outgoing messages.
Note The Use Simple Display Name option applies only to e-mail that is sent to servers that are outside the Exchange Server organization.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section. This problem was first corrected in Exchange Server 2003 Service Pack 2.
