Description of the Microsoft Windows Registry SYMPTOMSWhen you try to change Group Policy settings on a computer that is running Microsoft Small Business Server (SBS) 2000 with Service Pack 1 (SP1), you may receive an error message that is similar to one of the following messages. Error message 1 Failed to open the Group Policy object. You may not have appropriate rights. Details: The system cannot find the path specified. CAUSEWhen you install Small Business Server 2000 SP1, the direct hosting of the server message block (SMB) protocol over TCP/IP is disabled. This may cause the problem described in the "Symptoms" section. RESOLUTIONWarning If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.
