The x64-based versions of Microsoft Windows Server 2003 and of Microsoft Windows XP are designed to use the 64-bit Control Panel items. However, these operating systems do have 32-bit Control Panel items available for use. This article tells how to use the 32-bit Control Panel items on a computer that is running an x64-based version of Windows Server 2003 or of Windows XP.
Note The 32-bit items may not have the same user interface as the 64-bit items. The 32-bit items may have less functionality. We recommend that you use the 64-bit items whenever you can.
To use the 32-bit Control Panel items, follow these steps:

Your hardware manufacturer provides support because a Windows x64 edition was included with your hardware. Your hardware manufacturer might have customized the Windows x64 edition installation with unique components. Microsoft will provide reasonable-effort assistance if you need technical help with your Windows x64 edition. However, you might have to contact your manufacturer directly.
