INTRODUCTION

This article describes the Outlook 2003 issues that are fixed in the Outlook 2003 post-Service Pack 1 hotfix package that is dated November 19, 2004.

Issues that the hotfix package fixes

This hotfix package fixes the following issues that were not previously documented in a Microsoft Knowledge Base article:
  • When you use the Automatically accept meeting requests and process cancellations resource scheduling option in Outlook 2003 to process meeting updates, you may experience the following symptoms:
    • The meeting is removed from your calendar.
    • A declined response is sent to the person who sent the meeting update.
To view the Automatically accept meeting requests and process cancellations resource scheduling option in Outlook 2003, follow these steps:
    1. On the Tools menu, click Options.
    2. On the Preferences tab, click Calendar Options in the Calendar area.
    3. In the Calendar Options dialog box, click Resource Scheduling.
  • When you try to customize Outlook 2003 for 168-bit (3DES) encryption by changing the FIPSMode registry value to 1, 128-bit encryption is enabled, and you receive the following message when you send an encrypted message:
This message will be encrypted using a 128-bit key.
For more information about configuring Outlook 2003 to promote secure e-mail messaging, see the "Setting Consistent Outlook Cryptography Options for an Organization" topic on the following Microsoft Web site:
    http://www.microsoft.com/office/ork/2003/three/ch11/OutF05.htm
  • After you change the regional options to Welsh on your Windows XP-based computer, all the abbreviations for the days of the week in the Outlook 2003 calendar are changed to a single letter "D."
  • If you run a custom program that programmatically starts Outlook 2003, and then you quit Outlook 2003, the custom program adds an Outlook icon in the notification area and continues the Outlook process. When you click the Outlook icon that is in the notification area, Outlook 2003 does not start, and you receive the following error message:
Outlook is not responding. If you are using an Exchange server e-mail account, you can cancel pending server requests by clicking the Outlook icon in the notifications area, and then clicking Cancel Server Request on the shortcuts menu.

Prerequisites

The following list contains prerequisites for the hotfix package:
  • The optimized version of this hotfix is a post-Office 2003 Service Pack 1 (SP1) hotfix. To install the hotfix, you must have Office 2003 SP1 installed. For additional information about Office 2003 SP1, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
842532 Description of Office 2003 Service Pack 1

However, we have tested this hotfix more extensively on a computer that is running Office 2003 with Office 2003 SP1 installed than we have on a computer that is running Office 2003 without Office 2003 SP1 installed. If you install this hotfix on a computer that is running Office 2003 without Office 2003 SP1 installed, some file conflicts might occur.
