Virtual Machine Additions do not function when you use Fast User Switching in Virtual PC 2004 Service Pack 1

Expand all | Collapse all

SYMPTOMS

When you use the Fast User Switching feature of a Microsoft Windows XP-based virtual machine in Microsoft Virtual PC 2004 Service Pack 1 (SP1), the following Virtual Machine Additions do not function:
  • Drag-and-drop editing.
  • Folder sharing.
  • Clipboard sharing.
  • Dynamic resizing of the virtual machine window. This feature automatically adjusts the size of the guest operating system desktop.
When you switch back to the original user account, these additions continue not to function as expected.

The following Virtual Machine Additions function as expected after using Fast User Switching:
  • Integrated mouse.
  • Improved operating system performance.
  • Optimized video drivers.
  • Time synchronization.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because not all the Virtual Machine Additions are switched to the new user account when you use Fast User Switching. Only the user services of Virtual Machine Additions are switched to the new user account.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a bug in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
