You cannot read e-mail messages in Microsoft CRM Sales for Outlook when the messages are encoded in the KOI8-R, KOI8-U, or ISO 8859-5 character sets

SYMPTOMS

You cannot read e-mail messages in Microsoft CRM Sales for Outlook (the Outlook client) when the following conditions are true:
  • The e-mail messages were received in the Outlook client.
  • The e-mail messages are encoded in one of the following character sets:
    • KOI8-R
    • KOI8-U
    • ISO 8859-5 Cyrillic
However, you can use the Outlook client to read e-mail messages that are encoded in these character sets when the following conditions are true:
  • The e-mail messages were received in Microsoft Outlook.
  • The e-mail messages were then promoted to the Outlook client.

RESOLUTION

Microsoft Business Solutions CRM has a fix for this problem that is part of a cumulative update. The cumulative update information is described in the following Microsoft Knowledge Base article:

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
