The Exchange Connector for Lotus Notes does not currently update Active Directory with NULL attribute values that you configure for a Lotus Notes user

This article describes a behavior that occurs when you use the Microsoft Exchange Connector for Lotus Notes to synchronize IBM Lotus Notes user information with the Active Directory directory service.

The Microsoft Exchange Connector for Lotus Notes does not currently update Active Directory with NULL attribute values that you configure for a Lotus Notes user.

When you replicate directory information from a Lotus Notes/Domino server to Active Directory, user attributes are successfully replicated to Active Directory. An example of such a user attribute is the user's title. However, if you later remove the value for a Lotus Notes/Domino user attribute, and then synchronize your Lotus Notes/Domino directory information to Active Directory, the original value for that attribute is not removed from Active Directory. The following is an example of this behavior:

• You configure a Lotus Notes/Domino user account that has the Manager value in the Title attribute.
• You perform a directory synchronization to import this user to Active Directory.
• You use the Active Directory Users and Computers tool to view the imported user. The user has the "Manager" title.
• You remove the Manager value from that user's Title attribute on the Lotus Notes/Domino server.
  
  Note In this scenario, you set the Title attribute to a NULL value for this user.
• You synchronize directory information from Lotus Notes/Domino to Active Directory again.

The next time that use the Active Directory Users and Computers tool to view this user, you notice that the user still has the "Manager" title in Active Directory.

To work around this behavior, you must manually remove the value for the attribute. After you manually remove the value, you can use a NULL value in that attribute.

Microsoft continues to update the tools that support interoperability among Lotus Domino R5 and Lotus Domino 6, Microsoft Exchange Server 2003, and Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Active Directory. The updated tools for Lotus Domino replace the following tools that are included with Exchange Server 2003 and with Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 Service Pack 2:

• Exchange Connector for Lotus Notes
• Calendar Connector for Lotus Notes
• Migration Wizard for Lotus Notes
