SYMPTOMS

You have Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 or Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server installed on a computer that is running Microsoft Windows 2000 Server with Service Pack 4 (SP4) or with Service Pack 3 (SP3). In this scenario, when the computer is under stress, the Microsoft Exchange Server Information Store service (Store.exe) may stop responding. An access violation may also occur.

CAUSE

This problem may occur if safe string functions are not used to copy strings.

RESOLUTION

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem.
