You receive the "You need Microsoft Project Professional 2002 or Microsoft Office Project Professional 2003 in order to perform this action" error message when you accept updates in Project Web Access in Project Server 2003

When you try to accept updates in Microsoft Project Web Access (PWA) in Microsoft Office Project Server 2003, the update fails, and you receive the following error message:

This problem may occur if one of the following scenarios is true:

• The fully qualified domain name (FQDN) of the computer that is running Microsoft Project Server is used in the Web browser to connect to PWA, and the IP Address or the NetBIOS name of the computer that is running Project Server is used in Microsoft Project Professional.
• The IP address of the computer that is running Project Server is used in the Web browser to connect to PWA, and the NetBIOS name or the FQDN of the computer that is running Project Server is used in Project Professional.
• The NetBIOS name of the computer that is running Project Server is used in the Web browser to connect to PWA, and the IP address or the FQDN of the computer that is running Project Server is used in Project Professional.

To resolve this problem, make sure the Project Server URL that is used in PWA is the same as the Project Server URL that is used Project Professional. To make sure that the Project Server URL that is used in PWA is the same as the Project Server URL that is used Project Professional, use one of the following examples:

• Use the FQDN in both Project Professional and PWA.
• Use the NetBIOS name in both Project Professional and PWA.
• Use the IP address in both Project Professional and PWA.

To do this, follow these steps:

1. On the Tools menu in Project Professional, click Options.
2. Click the Collaborate tab.
3. In the Project Server URL box, type the corresponding URL for Project Server, and then click OK.
