Adobe Acrobat PDFMaker add-ins may cause documents to open or close slowly in Office for Mac programs

In Microsoft Office for Mac programs, documents may open or close slowly. Or, you may experience overall performance degradation with the programs. The programs may run slowly. For example, this issue may occur with Microsoft Office Word for Mac.

This issue may occur when you have the Adobe Acrobat PDFMaker add-ins as startup items in the startup folders of the Office for Mac programs. The PDFMaker add-ins may cause the symptoms that are described in the "Symptoms" section.

To work around this issue, you must remove all PDFMaker startup items from the startup folders of the Office programs. To do this, follow these steps:

1. Quit all Office for Mac programs.
2. Create a new folder on your desktop. To do this, follow these steps:
   1. On the dock, click Finder.
   2. On the File menu, click New Folder.
   3. Name this folder PDFMaker.
3. Locate and open the Microsoft Office X folder or the Microsoft Office 2004 folder on your computer. Typically, this folder is in the following location:
   Macintosh HD/Applications
4. Open the Office folder, and then open the Startup folder.
5. On the View menu, click as Columns.
6. Click the Excel folder.
7. Drag the pdfMaker.xla file into the PDFMaker folder that you created in step 2.
8. Click the PowerPoint folder.
9. Drag the pdfMaker.ppa file into the PDFMaker folder.
10. Click the Word folder.
11. Drag the pdfMaker.dot file into the PDFMaker folder.
12. Restart the computer. This action will clear the memory and remove any remaining references to the PDFMaker files.
