SYMPTOMS

When you try to install Microsoft SQL Server 2000 hotfix build 8.00.977, the installation may fail and the following messages are written to the Replsys.out file:
[DBNETLIB]Specified SQL server not found.
[DBNETLIB]ConnectionOpen (Connect()).
The following messages are written to the SQL Server 2000 hotfix Setup log:
2:31:45 - 54.078: SQL DLL: Attempting to set cluster service VCBTXX7CTO state to 0 (setup log file)
2:33:15 - SQL Server is terminating due to 'stop' request in event viewer log file (happens after checkpoint, very close to actual process exit)
2:33:16 - 147.312: Attempting to stop service: MSSQL$B (setup log file)
2:33:16 - 147.312: Successfully stopped service: MSSQL$B (setup log file)
2:33:16 - 147.312: Attempting to start service: MSSQL$B (setup log file)
2:33:16 - 147.312: Successfully started service: MSSQL$B (setup log file)
2:33:16 - 147.328: Attempting to run script: x:\1fbd188b0b82a7daadbf4738a1494d22\Files\replsys.sql
2:33:26 - 157.391: Unable to run script: x:\1fbd188b0b82a7daadbf4738a1494d22\Files\replsys.sql
Note You may experience this problem when you try to install the hotfix on a clustered or a stand-alone server computer that has large number of databases.

RESOLUTION

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Only apply it to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next SQL Server 2000 service pack that contains this hotfix.

Prerequisites

Restart information

You have to restart the SQL Server service after you apply this hotfix.

Hotfix file information

This hotfix contains only those files that are required to correct the issues that this article lists. This hotfix may not contain all the files that you must have to fully update a product to the latest build.

The English version of this hotfix has the file attributes (or later file attributes) that are listed in the following table.
