Article ID: 891736 - Last Review: February 26, 2009 - Revision: 2.0 Windows Media Player 6.4 is embedded in Web pages even when Windows Media Player 9 Series or Windows Media Player 10 is installedSYMPTOMSWhen you view a Web page that has Microsoft Windows Media Player embedded in it, Windows Media Player 6.4 is embedded instead of Windows Media Player 9 Series or Windows Media Player 10. This behavior occurs even when Windows Media Player 9 Series or Windows Media Player 10 is installed on your computer. CAUSEThis behavior occurs because the Windows Media Player 6.4 ActiveX control, Msdxm.ocx, was reregistered. The control may be reregistered by some versions of the Microsoft Internet Explorer Administration Kit (IEAK), by other applications, or by manual reregistering. RESOLUTIONImportant This section, method, or task contains steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you follow these steps carefully. For added protection, back up the registry before you modify it. Then, you can restore the registry if a problem occurs.
