Documents that are attached to e-mail messages are not added to an e-mail-enabled document library in Windows SharePoint Services

You configure a document library in Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services to allow e-mail insertion. A user sends an e-mail message that contains an attached document to the public folder in Microsoft Exchange. You expect the attached document to be added to the e-mail-enabled document library in Windows SharePoint Services. However, the attached document is not added to the e-mail-enabled document library. Additionally, you experience the following symptoms:

• The owner of the public folder receives an e-mail message that contains the following error message:
  There was an error processing one or more attachments
  The subject line in the Subject box of the e-mail message is the same subject line of the original e-mail message that the user sent.
• An entry that is similar to the following is generated by the Microsoft SharePoint Timer Service (Owstimer.exe) in the log file:
  0 DateTime 5984 SharePoint Timer Service for E-Mail Enabled Document Libraries : Object Not Found : <http://ServerName/Public/ServerName/FolderName.EML>
• If you take a network trace, you see that the NexTags log file contains an entry that is similar to the following:
  "HTTP/1.1 503 Service Unavailable": X-MS-ENUMATTS http://ServerName/exchange/UserName/Inbox/FileName.EML HTTP/1.1

This issue occurs if the UrlScan security tool is running on the Exchange computer, and the UrlScan security tool blocks the X-MS-ENUMATTS verb.

To resolve this issue, modify the Urlscan.ini file so that the UrlScan security tool allows the X-MS-ENUMATTS verb. To do this, follow these steps:

1. Start Notepad, and then open the Urlscan.ini file.
   
   Note The Urlscan.ini file is located in the following folder:
   %Windir%\System32\Inetsrv\Urlscan
2. Locate the [AllowVerbs] section of the file. The [AllowVerbs] section looks similar to the following:
   [AllowVerbs]
   ;
   ; The verbs (aka HTTP methods) listed here are those commonly ; processed by a typical IIS server.
   ;
   ; Note that these entries are effective if "UseAllowVerbs=1" is set in the [Options] section above.
   ;
   GET
   HEAD
   POST
3. On a separate line after POST, add the following lines:

   ;Below Verb used to Allow Attachments
   X-MS-ENUMATTS

4. Click Save on the File menu.
5. Reset Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS). To do this, click Start, click Run, type iisreset in the Open box, and then click OK.
