FIX: An account on a UNIX server expires after you use the shadow password option to synchronize a password between a UNIX server (HP-UX 11i) and a computer that is running Windows Services for UNIX 3.0 or Windows Services for UNIX 3.5

After you use the shadow password option to synchronize a password between a UNIX server (HP-UX 11i) and a computer that is running Microsoft Windows Services for UNIX 3.0 or Windows Services for UNIX 3.5, the account on the UNIX server expires.

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem.

To install this hotfix, you must be running Windows Services for UNIX 3.0 or a later version of Windows Services for UNIX.

You do not have to restart the computer after you apply this hotfix.

Hotfix file information

The English version of this hotfix has the file attributes (or later file attributes) that are listed in the following table. The dates and times for these files are listed in Coordinated Universal Time (UTC). When you view the file information, it is converted to local time. To find the difference between UTC and local time, use the Time Zone tab in the Date and Time item in Control Panel.

Steps to install the hotfix

1. At the command prompt, use the following command to extract the single sign-on daemon (SSOD) binaries:
   SFU3_892525_X86_ENU.exe /q /x:Folder
2. Stop the SSOD on the HP-UX-based computer.
3. Replace the SSOD binary on the HP-UX-based computer with the SSOD binary from this hotfix.
4. Start the SSOD on the HP-UX-based computer.
