SYMPTOMS

Consider the following scenario. You copy and paste shapes from your Microsoft Office Visio 2003 drawing or from your Microsoft Visio 2002 drawing to a Microsoft Word 2002 document. Then, you print the Word 2002 document to Adobe Acrobat to convert the document to a Portable Document Format (PDF) format. When you view the PDF document, the text that is in Microsoft Visio shapes is displayed incorrectly. Additionally, you experience one or both of the following symptoms:
  • The position of the text is changed. For example, the text is displayed outside the shapes instead of inside the shapes.
  • The size of the text is changed. For example, the text is larger than expected.

CAUSE

This issue may occur if the Print Quality option in Adobe Acrobat is set to a setting that is higher than 600 dots per inch (dpi).

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, set the PDF Print Quality option to the 600 dpi setting. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Quit Visio 2003 or Visio 2002, Word 2002, and Adobe Acrobat, if the programs are running.
  2. Click Start, click Run, type control printers in the Open box, and then click OK.
  3. Right-click Adobe PDF, and then click Printing Preferences.
  4. Click the Layout tab, and then click Advanced.
  5. In the Advanced PDF Converter Advanced Options dialog box, expand Graphic, and then click Print Quality.
  6. Click 600dpi, and then click OK two times.
  7. Start Word 2002, open the document, and then print the document to Adobe Acrobat. To print the drawing to Adobe Acrobat:
    1. In Word 2002, click Print on the File menu.
    2. Click Adobe PDF in the Name box, and then click OK.
    3. In the Save PDF File As dialog box, specify a file name and a location where you want to save the PDF file, and then click Save.
