On This PageSYMPTOMSThe end-user-defined characters (EUDC) are not aligned correctly in the graphical user interface (GUI) of some Japanese programs. This problem occurs on a computer that is running the Japanese version of Microsoft Windows XP or the Japanese version of Microsoft Windows Server 2003. This problem occurs even if you enable the Jpn98FixPitch registry entry on your computer. Note This problem does not occur if you enable the Jpn98FixPitch registry entry on a computer that is running the Japanese version of Microsoft Windows 2000. CAUSEThis problem occurs because the EUDC character width is not calculated correctly even if the Jpn98FixPitch registry entry is enabled on the computer. RESOLUTIONWindows XP hotfix informationA supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next software update that contains this hotfix.If the hotfix is available for download, there is a "Hotfix download available" section at the top of this Knowledge Base article. If this section does not appear, contact Microsoft Customer Service and Support to obtain the hotfix.
