On This PageSYMPTOMSIn Microsoft Windows XP Professional, when you try to use a smart card to log on to a Microsoft Windows Server 2003 domain, you receive the Change Password dialog box. In the Change Password dialog box, the User Name box is empty and the Old Password box is full. CAUSEThis problem may occur when you try to log on to a Windows Server 2003 domain and your password has expired. Note After you apply this hotfix, when you try to use a smart card to log on to a Windows Server 2003 domain and your password has expired, you will receive the following error message: Your password has expired and must be changed. Please logon using your password in order to change it. RESOLUTIONHotfix informationA supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next software update that contains this hotfix.If the hotfix is available for download, there is a "Hotfix download available" section at the top of this Knowledge Base article.
