This article discusses how to remove and reinstall Microsoft Money 2000 and later versions on the computer.

To remove Money from the computer, use the following methods in the order that they appear in.

Step 1: Quit all the programs that are running

Note Because there are several versions of Microsoft Windows, the following steps may be different on your computer. If they are, see your product documentation to complete these steps.

1.	Restart the computer, and then log on as an administrator.
2.	Open the Task Manager. • To do this on a computer that is running Windows Vista, right-click the taskbar, and then click Task Manager. • To do this on a computer that is running Microsoft Windows XP or an earlier version of Windows, press CTRL+ALT+DELETE, and then click Task Manager.
3.	Click the Applications tab.
4.	In the Task list, click a program, and then click End Task.
5.	Repeat step 3 until you have quit each program that is listed in the Task list.

Step 2: Display the hidden files

1.	Open the Folder Options dialog box. • To do this on a computer that is running Windows Vista, click Start, type Folder Options in the Start Search box, and then click Folder Options in the Programs list. • To do this on a computer that is running Microsoft Windows XP or an earlier version of Windows, double-click My Computer on the desktop, and then click Folder Options on the Tools menu.
2.	Click the View tab.
3.	In the Advanced Settings list, click Show hidden files and folders.
4.	Click to clear the Hide protected operating system files check box.
5.	Click Apply, and then click OK.

Step 3: Remove Money

On a computer that is running Windows Vista

1.	Click Start, click Control Panel, click Programs, and then click Programs and Features.
2.	Click Microsoft Money, and then click Uninstall.
3.	Follow the instructions to complete the removal process.
4.	Repeat steps 2 through 3 to remove any programs that are associated with Money, the Microsoft Money System Pack, or an earlier version of Money.

On a computer that is running Windows XP or an earlier version of Windows

1.	Click Start, click Run, type appwiz.cpl, and then click OK.
2.	In the Currently installed programs list, click Microsoft Money, and then click Remove.
3.	Follow the instructions that appear on the screen to complete the removal process.
4.	Repeat steps 2 through 3 to remove any programs that are associated with Money, the Microsoft Money System Pack, or an earlier version of Money.

If are successfully able to remove Microsoft Money from the Currently installed programs list, to step 7 otherwise continue with step 4.

Step 4: Move your Money data file

On a computer that is running Windows Vista

1.	Use the following procedure to search for all files that the Microsoft Money file extension, *.mny: a. Click Start, and then click Search. b. In the Search box, type *.mny. As you type, files that match the text in variety of locations on your computer will appear. c. Perform one of the following actions in the Search pane: • Click Document to show only documents. • Click Advanced Search to show additional filters. To build a more advanced search, enter information in any of the list boxes, and then click Search. • Click an item in the Location list to choose a different set of locations for your search. The default search is indexed locations. However, you can choose to search an entire hard disk or any other location.
2.	In the list of found files, press and hold down the CTRL key, and then click to select each Money data file that is not located in the My Documents folder.
3.	Right-click the selected files, drag them to the desktop or to another folder, and then click Move Here.

On a computer that is running Windows XP or an earlier version of Windows

1.	Click Start, and then click Search.
2.	Click All files and folders.
3.	In the All or part of the Name box, type *.mny .
4.	In the Look in box, click My Computer, and then click Search.
5.	In the list of found files, press and hold down the CTRL key, and then click to select each Money data file that is not located in the My Documents folder.
6.	Right-click and drag the files that you selected to the Windows desktop or to another folder, and then click Move Here.

Step 5: Delete the Money folders

1.	On a computer that is running Windows Vista, right-click Start, and then click Explore. On a computer that is running Windows XP or an earlier version of Windows, right-click Start, and then click Explore.
2.	Locate and then right-click the following folder: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Money Note This is the default installation location for Money. If you have Money installed in a different directory, locate that directory to delete the Money folder.
3.	Click Delete. When you are prompted to confirm the deletion, click Yes.
4.	Repeat steps 2 through 3 to delete the following folders if they are present: • C:\Program Files\Microsoft Money 2006 • C:\Program Files\Microsoft Money 2005 • C:\Program Files\Microsoft Money
5.	Quit Windows Explorer.

Step 6: Remove the Windows Installer registry keys for Money

1.

Download, install, and then run the Microsoft Windows Installer CleanUp utility to remove the Windows Installer registry settings that are associated with the installation of the product. To use the Windows CleanUp utility, follow these steps: a. Click Start, point to All Programs, and then click Windows Installer Clean Up. b. Select the program that you want to remove, and then click Remove. c. Click OK, and then click Exit. Note Because the Windows Installer CleanUp utility removes Windows Installer-related registry settings and not the program files, make sure that you install your program in the same folder where the program was originally installed to prevent duplication of files on the hard disk.

Step 8: Install Money

1.	Insert your Money CD in the CD or DVD drive. If the installation process does not start automatically, continue to follow these steps.
2.	Click Start, click Run, type apwiz.cpl, and then click OK.
3.	In the left pane, click Add New Programs.
4.	In the right pane, click CD or Floppy.
5.	Follow the instructions that appear on the screen to complete the installation process.
6.	Restart the computer.

At this point, you should have a clean installation of Microsoft Money. If you were receiving error messages, test to see if the issue is resolved.

Step 9: Open your Money file
