You cannot rotate and save an image file in Windows Picture and Fax Viewer on a computer that is running Windows XP or Windows Server 2003Article ID: 896269 - View products that this article applies to. On This PageSYMPTOMSIf you try to rotate an image file in Windows Picture and
Fax Viewer, you receive the following error message: Because this image is read-only, the rotated version cannot be
saved using the same file name. To save it, click Copy To and give it a new
file name.
CAUSEThis behavior occurs because Windows Picture and Fax Viewer
uses the ReplaceFile Application Programming Interface (API). Windows Picture
and Fax Viewer uses the ReplaceFilewithout API without using the
