INTRODUCTION

This article describes the Microsoft Office SharePoint Portal Server 2003 issue that is fixed in the SharePoint Portal Server 2003 post-Service Pack 1 hotfix package that is dated March 28, 2005.

The issue that the hotfix package fixes

This hotfix package fixes the following issue that was not previously documented in a Microsoft Knowledge Base article:

A custom CONTAINS query does not return the correct results when you run the query in SharePoint Portal Server 2003

If you run a custom CONTAINS query to search for items in a SharePoint Portal Server database, you may receive the following error message:
No matching documents were found.
You receive this error message even if matching documents exist in the SharePoint Portal Server database.

This problem occurs if the search results in too many restrictions. This problem occurs because SharePoint Portal Server does not return a STATUS_TOO_MANY_NODES exception error as expected.
