FIX: You cannot hear a background sound on an HTML page that uses the BGSOUND tag on a Windows CE .NET 4.2-based device

SYMPTOMS

On a Windows CE .NET 4.2-based device, if you view an HTML page by using Microsoft Internet Explorer, you cannot hear the background sound that is specified by the BGSOUND tag on the page.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because the background sound is played at a very low volume.

Prerequisites

This software update is supported only if all previously issued software updates for this product have also been installed.

Restart requirement

After you install this software update, you must perform a clean build of the whole platform. To clean the platform, click Clean on the Build menu. To build the platform, click Build Platform on the Build menu. You do not have to restart the computer after you apply this software update.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem for devices that do not have this software update, add the VOLUME=0 attribute to the BGSOUND tag on the HTML page.
