On This PageSYMPTOMSAfter you install security update MS05-018 (KB890859) on a Microsoft Windows 2000-based computer, you may experience any one of the following symptoms:
CAUSEThe Stop error occurs when the computer accesses a NULL DeviceObject object in a volume
parameter block. This volume parameter block access is caused by a race condition. This race condition occurs when the computer mounts volumes on removable media devices such as CD or DVD drives. This Stop error is more likely to occur in the following types of computers:
RESOLUTIONHotfix informationA supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article.
