When you make a change to the Junk E-mail Filter list, this change is not replicated to the Web-based e-mail server

SYMPTOMS

You use Outlook to access a Web-based e-mail account. When you make a change to the Junk E-mail Filter list, this change is not replicated to the Web-based e-mail server. For example, you add an e-mail address to the Junk E-mail Filter list or you delete a domain name from the Junk E-mail Filter list. If you log on to your Web-based e-mail account directly and view the Junk E-mail Filter list, the change that you made in Outlook is not present. You will continue to receive messages in Outlook from the e-mail address that you added to Junk E-mail Filter list. However, the change that you made in the Junk E-mail Filter list in the Outlook profile on the computer is still in effect. Outlook will process the message after the message is received.

CAUSE

This issue occurs if the following conditions are true:
  • The Web-based e-mail account has parental control enabled. That is, the Web-based e-mail account is controlled by a parent e-mail account.
  • You connect to the Web-based e-mail server through Microsoft Office Outlook Connector.
You cannot add or delete items from the Junk E-mail Filter list on the Web-based e-mail server if you are using a parental controlled e-mail account from any one of the following Web-based e-mail services:
  • Hotmail
  • MSN Hotmail
  • Windows Live Custom Domains
  • Sympatico Mail

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, use the parent e-mail account to add or to delete items from the Junk E-mail Filter lists for the Web-based e-mail account that is controlled by the parent e-mail account.
