Microsoft distributes Microsoft SQL Server 2000 fixes as one downloadable file. Because the fixes are cumulative, each new release contains all the hotfixes and all the security fixes that were included with the previous SQL Server 2000 fix release.

SYMPTOMS

You receive incorrect results when you run a query that uses a cross join operator in Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Service Pack 3 (SP3).

This problem may also occur if the SQL Server query optimizer generates an incorrect plan. If the SQL Server query optimizer generates an incorrect plan, you may receive a NO JOIN PREDICATE warning in SQL Profiler.

These problems occur if a build that is newer than build 850 is installed.

CAUSE

This problem occurs if the SQL Server query optimizer does not correctly optimize the query.

RESOLUTION

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem.
