On This PageSYMPTOMSYou run the Active Directory System Discovery method in Microsoft Systems Management Server (SMS) 2003 Service Pack 1 (SP1) to discover computer systems. You perform the following actions in the Browse for Active Directory dialog box to update the collection membership:
ComputerAccountName$ Also, if you click to select the Recursive check box in the Browse for Active Directory dialog box and then rerun the Active Directory System Discovery method, two discovery data records for the same computer account may exist in the SMS 2003 database. In this case, one discovery data record includes a dollar sign character at the end of the computer account name. The other discovery data record does not include a dollar sign character at the end of the computer account name.CAUSEThis problem occurs because the Active Directory System Discovery method adds the dollar sign character as part of the discovery process. The Active Directory System Discovery method removes the dollar sign character when the Active Directory System Discovery method adds the discovered computer system to the SMS 2003 database.
