SYMPTOMS

After you unplug a universal serial bus (USB) display device from a Microsoft Windows XP-based computer, the USB display device may remain visible in Device Manager.

CAUSE

This issue occurs because video-port based drivers do not automatically unload. When you unplug a USB device, the USB device should not remain visible in Device Manager. However, if the USB device is a USB display device, it remains visible in Device Manager. To unload a video-port based driver, the computer must be restarted.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, restart the computer.
