Symptoms

Consider the following scenario. You disconnect a universal serial bus (USB) smart card reader from a Microsoft Windows 2000-based computer. Then, you reconnect the smart card reader to the computer. In this scenario, the computer no longer recognizes the smart card reader.

Resolution

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem.

Prerequisites

To apply this hotfix, you must have Windows 2000 Service Pack 4 (SP4) installed on the computer.
