SYMPTOMS

When you try to create a timesheet in Microsoft Business Solutions Business Portal, you receive the following error message:
An unexpected error occurred. Please contact your system administrator.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because the timesheet function cannot calculate a timesheet for a month whose days are not equal to the number of days in the template.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section. This problem was first corrected in Business Portal 3.0 Service Pack 1.

Steps to reproduce the problem

The following steps refer to Fabrikam, Inc. Fabrikam is the fictitious company that is used for demonstration purposes in Microsoft Business Solutions - Great Plains.
  1. Set your report periods to Monthly in Microsoft Great Plains:
    1. On the Tools menu, point to Setup, point to Project, and then click Timesheet.
    2. In the Reporting Periods list, click Monthly.
    3. In the First Date of Reporting Period 1 field, type 01012005, and then click OK.
  2. In Microsoft Business Portal, create a timesheet template:
    1. In Microsoft Internet Explorer, open your Microsoft Business Portal home page.
    2. Click Project.
    3. In the navigation pane, click Project Time.
    4. Click New.
    5. In the Begin Date field, type 02/01/2005, and then click OK.
    6. Click Next.
    7. In the Edit My Project List Web page dialog box, click Download the list.
    8. In the Available projects list, click HOTELEDGER: Park Resort Hotel Ledger, click Add, and then click OK.
    9. Next to CONSULTING, type 8.0 for the number of consulting hours for each workday on the timesheet.
    10. Click Save as template.

      If you are prompted to override the existing template, click OK.

      If you receive a warning message that tells you how to use the new template, click OK.
    11. Click Submit.
  3. Create a timesheet by using the new template:
    1. Click New-use template.
    2. In the Begin Date field, type 03/01/2005, and then click OK.
