SYMPTOMSWhen you deploy software updates and hotfixes to computers in your organization by using Microsoft Windows Server Update Services (WSUS) or by using the Microsoft Update Web site, some Microsoft Office updates are not successfully installed on certain client computers. In this situation, the user on the client computer may receive the following message in the Automatic Updates dialog box: Updates were unable to be successfully installed <date> <time> 3124 c54 Handler : WARNING: First failure for update {GUID}, transaction error = 0x8024200b, MSI result = 0x80070643, MSI action = StartCacheCollapse this table

CAUSEThis issue may occur if the Office Source Engine service (Ose.exe) startup type is set to Disabled. By default, the Office Source Engine service startup type is set to Manual. Microsoft Windows Installer uses a custom action to start the Office Source Engine service. However, Windows Installer cannot start the Office Source Engine service if the Office Source Engine service is disabled. RESOLUTIONTo resolve this issue, follow these steps:
