SYMPTOMS

When you run an application that calls a Web service, you may receive an error message that is similar to the following:
System.ArgumentException: Only one WebServiceBinding attribute may be specified on type 'XXX.YYY'. Parameter name: type at System.Web.Services.WebServiceBindingReflector.GetAttribute(Type type) at System.Web.Services.Protocols.SoapClientType..ctor(Type type) at System.Web.Services.Protocols.SoapHttpClientProtocol..ctor()
Note This problem occurs when the application was written by using Microsoft Visual Basic .NET 2003 and the application uses the Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1.

CAUSE

This problem is caused by a bug in the Visual Basic .NET 2003 compiler.

RESOLUTION

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Only apply it to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next Microsoft Visual Studio .NET 2003 service pack that contains this hotfix.

Prerequisites

To apply this hotfix, you must have Visual Studio .NET 2003 installed on the computer.

Note You must select the version of the hotfix installer that is the same language as the language of the Visual Studio .NET 2003 product that will be updated.

Restart requirement

You do not have to restart the server after you apply this hotfix.

This hotfix does not replace any other hotfixes.

The English version of this hotfix has the file attributes (or later file attributes) that are listed in the following table. The dates and times for these files are listed in Coordinated Universal Time (UTC). When you view the file information, it is converted to local time.
