SYMPTOMS

Consider the following scenario:
  • You use a USB camera on a Microsoft Windows XP-based computer to capture video.
  • You put the computer on standby.
  • You resume the computer from standby.
In this scenario, the camera waits approximately 8 seconds before it restarts video capture.

Note The delay occurs only with USB cameras that use the USBCAMD device driver model.

CAUSE

The USBCAMD device driver waits 8 seconds before the driver enables the USB camera. Older devices require this delay to resume operation. Newer devices may not require this delay.

RESOLUTION

Hotfix information

Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix might receive additional testing. MORE INFORMATION

The PowerUpDelay registry entry controls the delay time. This entry is located in the following registry subkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\usbcamd
The PowerUpDelay entry is created and modified by the OEM driver file.

Note PowerUpDelay is a registry DWORD value that is set in seconds. Both the USBCAMD and USBCAMD2 device drivers use this entry to determine delay time before the drivers enable the camera.
