An access violation occurs when you use the Distribute Software Updates Wizard in the SMS 2003 Inventory Tool for HP ProLiant and Integrity Updates

When you use the Microsoft Systems Management Server (SMS) 2003 Inventory Tool for HP ProLiant and Integrity Updates, an access violation occurs. Specifically, this symptom occurs after you click Next on the Specify Source page in the Distribute Software Updates Wizard.

Installation instructions

You must install this Distribute Software Updates Wizard (DSUW) hotfix on your SMS 2003 Service Pack 1 (SP1) site server and on all SMS remote administration consoles in your SMS environment that are used for authorizing updates for HP servers. If you do not install this hotfix for SMS 2003, you will not be able to authorize HP ProLiant and Integrity updates using the DSUW tool.

To install this hotfix on your SMS site server and on all SMS Administration consoles in your SMS environment, perform the following steps:

1. Exit the SMS Administrator Console.
2. On the desktop, double-click the My Computer icon and navigate to the folder containing the SMS2003-SP1-KB906554-X86-ENU.exe file.
3. Right-click the SMS2003-SP1-KB906554-X86-ENU.exe file, and then click Open. The Systems Management Server 2003 KB986554 Setup Wizard dialog box appears.
4. On the Welcome to the Systems Management Server 2003 KB906554 Setup Wizard page, click Next. The License Agreement page appears.
5. Click I Agree, and then click Next. The Updating Your System page appears. When that is completed, the Completing the Systems Management Server 2003 KB906554 Setup Wizard page appears.
6. Click Finish to close theSystems Management Server 2003 KB906554 Setup Wizard.
7. Restart the SMS site server and each computer with Administration consoles in your SMS environment after installing this hotfix

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section. This problem was first corrected in Systems Management Server 2003 Service Pack 2.
