Article ID: 907306 - Last Review: February 8, 2012 - Revision: 5.0 Description of the Software Update for Web Folders: May 18, 2007
On This PageSUMMARYThis article describes the Web folders issues that are fixed in
the Software Update for Web Folders that is dated May 18,
2007. This article describes the following items about the update:
INTRODUCTIONThis update installs the Microsoft Data Access Internet Publishing Provider component. The Microsoft Data Access Internet Publishing Provider component makes it possible to connect to a Web server as a Web folder when the native Web Client service cannot.
The Windows 2003 and Windows XP x64-based native Web Client service redirector for WebDAV only provides support for TCP port 80. This limitation does not apply to the native Web Client in Windows Vista or later.
The Windows native Web Client service redirector only communicates via WebDAV. Therefore, you will be unable to establish a Web folder connection to any Web server implementing Web folder functionality via a Web Extender Client component (like FrontPage Server Extensions).
Note On a Windows x64-based computer the Windows Explorer (shell, common dialog boxes, My Network Places, and so on) and other 64-bit applications cannot use the Microsoft Data Access Internet Publishing Provider. This is only available as a 32-bit application. 64-bit applications are limited to using Web Distributed Authoring and Versioning (WebDAV) via the native Web Client service redirector. There are currently no plans for porting this deprecated Windows component to future 64-bit versions of the operating system.
