SUMMARY

You can use the Xbox Live account recovery feature to recover an Xbox Live enabled profile that was deleted. The account recovery feature lets you download your profile information from the Xbox Live servers.

Note You must have an Xbox storage device to use the account recovery feature. You can use the account recovery feature if you have an Xbox 360 Memory Unit or Xbox 360 Hard Drive.

Note Don't use the account recovery feature when you're on the go. If you want to take your Xbox Live enabled profile with you to a friend’s house, you should use a memory unit.

THINGS TO TRY

To use account recovery, follow these steps.

Note Because a Windows Live ID is associated with each profile, you must provide your Windows Live ID user name and password to be sure that the correct profile is downloaded when you use the account recovery feature.
  1. If you are signed in to a profile, press the Xbox 360 Guide button, press the X button on your Xbox 360 controller, and then select Yes, Sign out.
  2. Press the Xbox 360 Guide button, and then select Recover Gamertag.

MORE INFORMATION

There are a few things you should know about account recovery:
  • When you perform account recovery, any other copies of your Xbox Live enabled profile that are on any memory units or hard drives will be invalidated to help protect your security.
  • If you use your profile on both the original Xbox console and the Xbox 360 console, copies of your profile on the original Xbox console are not invalidated unless you perform account recovery on an original Xbox console.
  • Account recovery erases any pass codes that are stored in the Xbox Live enabled profile. Therefore, you may have to create new pass codes to help protect the Xbox Live enabled profile.
  • Account recovery on the Xbox 360 console does not reset your pass code for your profile on the original Xbox console.
